Uber and Be.EV have joined forces on a new deal designed to make public charging cheaper, simpler and more predictable for drivers using electric vehicles – starting with a 12-month pilot in the North West of England. The partnership brings together the world’s largest mobility platform and one of the UK’s top-rated rapid and ultra-rapid public charging networks (as voted by users of Zapmap ) to help reduce EV running costs and support cleaner air in our towns and cities.
Right chargers, right places for Uber drivers
If you drive with Uber, your day doesn’t necessarily run nine-to-five. It could be an airport run at dawn, station pick-ups in the rain, or late-night trips across town. Your charging has to fit around all of that.
Be.EV’s network is built for that reality. Born in the North and now powering the nation, Be.EV focuses on putting chargers where drivers already are – not sending them on a detour.
Today, Be.EV operates over 200 charging sites across the UK, with a strong footprint in its Greater Manchester heartland and continued growth nationwide. For Uber EV drivers in the North West, that means more places to plug in around key demand areas across the region. At selected Be.EV hubs, drivers can access ultra-rapid charging up to 300kW, helping add meaningful range during a short stop – whether that’s grabbing a coffee or catching up on messages.
A discounted, predictable deal for eligible Uber EV drivers
For the 12-month pilot, eligible Uber drivers in fully electric vehicles who opt in will get access to an exclusive discounted charging rate on the Be.EV network, with lower off-peak pricing overnight and a reduced rate at peak times.
To keep things simple, eligible drivers will also be able to access these discounted rateswithout paying Be.EV’s usual monthly membership fee during the pilot.
The discounted rates apply across Be.EV’s fast, rapid and ultra-rapid chargers – so whether you’re topping up between trips or grabbing a quick hit of ultra-rapid power before your next pick-up, you can charge with more certainty over cost. That predictability is especially important for drivers who can’t install a home charger and rely on public infrastructure instead.
Fair fares, fair charging – in their own words
“We’re proud to be partnering with Uber on a deal that’s focused on fairness,” says Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV. “Public charging has to work for people who earn their living on the road – especially those without a driveway. This pilot shows what can happen when you treat charging as essential infrastructure for working people, not a luxury. We’re investing heavily in the North West and expanding nationally, and this is a big step in the right direction for drivers who need reliable charging at a better, more predictable price.”
Andrew Brem, General Manager, Uber UK, says: “Uber is all-in on electric – EVs are better for our drivers, because they can save money by eliminating fuel costs, and better for our cities as EVs mean healthier air for everyone. We know that accessibility to electric chargers is one of the biggest barriers to getting drivers to switch to EVs, so this partnership with Be.EV is a brilliant way for us to support drivers in the North West to make the transition to cleaner vehicles.”
How it works
Eligible Uber EV drivers in the North West will be able to complete a simple sign-up process shared by Uber and then set up (or update) their Be.EV account using the same email address linked to their Uber account. Drivers can then charge as normal at Be.EV sites using the Be.EV app or an RFID card, with the discounted pilot rate applied automatically and reflected in receipts. Terms and conditions apply.
